Once a month the bar plays one record the way it was meant to be heard: complete, loud, and without commentary. This session, Ren Takahashi programmes Alice Coltrane’s Journey in Satchidananda — an album most of us know as background and almost none of us have actually listened to.

We sit, the lights go down, side one starts. Between sides there is time to get a drink and precisely no obligation to say anything intelligent. Conversation after is optional and usually excellent.
