INDEX 05
ABOUT THE CLUB
The Index began as a dinner that refused to end. Six years on it is three rooms, four hundred members, and a working belief that proximity beats process.
The Index started in 2019 as a supper club with a spreadsheet: eighteen people, one table, and a seating plan that took longer to write than the menu. The dinners kept working — companies were founded, shows were hung, one marriage survives to this day — so we kept setting the table.
The club now runs from a converted print works in Clerkenwell: a reading room, a dining room and a listening bar, stacked one above the other. The spreadsheet has become an index of four hundred members across three cities. The premise has not changed at all — put interesting people within arm’s reach of each other, then stay out of the way.

HOW IT WORKS
Three steps, no theatre.
01
Apply
Tell us what you are building, exploring or hoping to contribute. Two references help; one existing member helps more.
02
Meet
A conversation over coffee in the Reading Room — not an interview, and never a pitch. We are deciding fit, not worth.
03
Belong
A card, a number, and a standing invitation to three rooms, a monthly programme and four hundred people worth interrupting.
RULE 01
What’s said at the table stays at the table.
RULE 02
No audiences. Every guest is a participant.
RULE 03
Only vouch for people you’d share a table with.
